Not much is known about the Beetson's; as a matter of fact, we only know of ONE Beetson: Ann Beetson, who was the wife of the innkeeper Thomas Oates and the female progeniter of the maternal Sinnett Smith - Oates lineage.
Ann's name is first documented in the registers of the cahedral Peter and Paul in Sheffield. Unfortunately her parents' names are not mentioned in the marriage entry.
We also no nothing of her life, other than her marriage to Tom Oates and the names of her children. However, we are well-informed of her likely death. In the night of her death, a fire broke out in her husband's inn, the "Dove and the Rainbow" while the family and servants were fast asleep. Luckily the complete family was able to escape the flames, but Ann decided to reenter the house, to rescue a considerable sum of money, according to the author of the book "Reminiscences of old Sheffield". She perished in the flames together with a servant girl.
